Subject: Spyraflo Delrin Bearings utilizing DuPont Delrin® 500AF               

This bulletin serves to notify you of changes to the Spyraflo Delrin AF bearing.  

Dupont, manufacturer of the AF Polymer, has voluntarily changed its processes to comply with upcoming US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) directives for the reduction of PFOA.  The change in Dupont’s production process has only marginally impacted the mechanical properties of the polymer and subsequently our bearings.  Dupont assures us that the mechanical properties are the same and meet the same performance requirements of the old polymer. The only significant change is in the appearance of the Delrin 500 AF resin which we use in our Spyraflo Delrin AF bearings.

The color of the Delrin AF series is now a “dark charcoal” color instead of the ‘brown’ color you have been accustomed to.  The change in Dupont’s production processes have been in place since late 2006 but Spyraflo has only recently depleted our internal inventory of the original colored Delrin AF resin.  As we consume our existing inventory of bearings made with the brown product, we will begin shipping bearings which will use the new charcoal colored polymer.  Please note; this change will take place over the next twelve months at different times for different part numbers.
